The newMaserati MC20 Cielomade its North American debut today at “The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering”, a prestigious automotive event in California that now forms an integral part of motoring culture in the United States. “The Quail”, a major part of Monterey's prestigious “Car Week”, was the ideal setting for luxury brand Maserati to share the open-top version of its super sports car.

Davide Grasso, Maserati Chief Executive Officer, and Bill Peffer, CEO of Maserati Americas together with Klaus Busse, Head of Maserati Design, presented the Trident brand's latest addition. Also featuring on the stand were the Grecale Trofeo performance SUV and MC20 Coup super sports car.

Equipped with the revolutionary, state-of-the-art V6 Nettuno engine, the MC20 Cielo offers a perfect mix of sportiness and luxury, courtesy of a feature unique to the segment: its innovative retractable glass roof. In actual fact, the new spyder acts a meeting point between Maserati audacity and the infinite sky, offering a special “sky feeling”.

As a first in the convertible segment, this car is equipped with an innovative and unique retractable smart glass roof, which can instantly be transformed from clear to opaque at the touch of a button. To do so, the roof employs Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology to provide a multi-faceted driving experience: cosy and focused with the roof closed, and opaque; a unique open “sky feeling” when the roof is transparent; a holistic experience with the top down.

The heart of the MC20 Cielo is the revolutionary new Nettuno engine, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that delivers 630 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, with 730Nm of torque @ 3,000-5,500 rpm. Maserati's Nettuno is the first engine intended for a road car to use an innovative pre-chamber combustion system with twin spark plugs, a technology derived from Formula 1 competitions.

The MC20 Cielo was developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena and is produced at the its historic plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in the same city. It is therefore 100% Made in Italy.

Two other models are also featuring on the Trident brand's stand: a Grecale Trofeo and an MC20 coup - in an eye-catching Fuoriserie version.

The Grecale Trofeo – in Grigio Lava Opaco (matte lava grey) – is equipped with a high-performance 3.0L 530-hp V6 petrol engine, based on the Nettuno. The brand's latest SUV represents an ideal blend of elegance, innovation, performance and versatility, while ensuring optimum comfort, driveability and safety.

Conversely, the MC20 Fuoriserie – with Rosso Corse, Bianco Audace Lucido and Verde Smeraldo ( Corse red, bold gloss white and emerald green) livery – forms part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme. Maserati Fuoriserie offers customers the opportunity to create the car of their dreams, tailored to their exact tastes. Using a wide array of colours and designs, the only limitation is the imagination of individual customers, who can express their own personal creativity across the Italian luxury marque's range.
