The car originally was a standard Ferrari 512 BB sold for the German market, though its second owner in the early 80s was familiar with Koenig specials and decided to have the car rebuilt with the full package of upgrades offered at the time.
This package includes flared wheel arches, wider wheels, a pronounced front and rear spoiler and integrated side mirrors. Additional upgrades include a high-performance exhaust, two-disc clutch, chassis upgrades, engine tuning, an overhaul of the brake and transmission cooling and a car phone. The upgrades in total came at a cost of 110,330 DM or $60,466 at the time in 1983, the equivalent of more than $175,000 today.
The car is currently located in Switzerland and includes a 5% buyer's premium for buyers in the United States. The Ferrari has 57,629 km on the odometer, which equates to 35,809 miles. The left-hand drive Koenig Special has a pearl white exterior paint and red interior, a manual transmission, and a 4.9-liter flat-12 engine.
The listing includes the fact that the car has no major damage and features a re-paint from its original flat white exterior color. The current paint has some minor chipping and “small imperfections expected from a car of this age.” The interior has some indications of light wear, but also has a “handsome patina of age.”

The car was last serviced in April by Ferrari specialist Dario Saurer and consisted of an engine oil and filter change, the timing belt being replaced, new shock absorbers, tires, fuel hoses, and spark plugs. The carburetors were also re-sealed and the gear selector was adjusted.
The listing says that the Ferrari 512 BB “Koenig Special” is a “truly outrageous” version of a car that already has a reputation for being iconic, and the overhaul took place early in the car's lifetime. Cars that are original with these treatments can be rare to find, and this Ferrari is not only original but has been well-cared for.
