Automotive experts named fatal mistakes when replacing spark plugs in cars, Ukr.Media informs.

First of all, drivers should pay attention so that dirt does not get into the engine.

< p>A frequent and very unpleasant consequence of improper replacement of candles is the ingress of dirt into the combustion chamber. Before replacement, experts advise to thoroughly wash and clean the power unit body and the well channel of the candles. This can be done with compressed air or special chemicals.

Otherwise, after unscrewing the spark plug, dust, sand and dirt can enter the channel, scratching the inner surface of the piston and cylinder walls.

An equally common mistake when replacing candles is when they are tightened incorrectly. If it is undertightened, the heat transfer will at least be impaired, and due to insufficient heat dissipation, the candle may overheat, which threatens to burn out the electrodes and destroy the insulator.

If you overtighten, you can damage the ceramic insulator, which will lead to misfires, or worse — the appearance of cracks in ceramics.

In addition, car owners often try to get by with a handy tool, because not everyone has an inexpensive torque wrench that makes a characteristic click when the spark plug is optimally tightened. This is also a common cause of breakdowns.

When unscrewing, candles can break if the part was once screwed in with excessive force. In the future, the car owner in this case will have to face the removal of the cylinder head and drilling out the remains of the spark plug.

To carry out such procedures, you will need a special extractor key that is screwed into the damaged spark plug.

Unscrew candles are needed only on a cold engine, because otherwise you can burn your hands, and on a hot engine, the threads and the ceramic shell of the candle are most likely to be damaged.
